The # 1 Leadership Attribute

By on in with No Comments

Recently I’ve been reminded of what it takes to be a good follower of Jesus. I’m also reminded of what it takes to be a good leader.

Humility.

That doesn’t sound fun. I thought leading was all about being up front, speaking, etc. Isn’t it? Nope. I heard a great definition of humility in leadership, “Let each of you look out not only for his own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” That is taken straight from the Bible. (Philippians 2:4)

Leading is all about looking. Looking to the needs of others. As I pray for our teams around the world, and those here in The Pacific Southwest, I see how solid our folks are. The reason they are solid is their humility. They are constantly thinking of others.

Nate is leading a team in Venezuela. I have been so inspired by the humility folks like Nate have as they lead their teams in sharing Jesus around the world.

I can muddy leading by trying to do, do, and do more. The more we think of the needs of others- the more we serve the interests of others- the more fruitful we are. This is obvious with folks like Nate and other young leaders I have the privilege of working with.

How can I grow in humility today? What does this look like for you? Share it below!
